Now that you have found out about the Ombudsman and what she does why not try to write an essay on one of the following suggested topics.

3. Imagine you are a parent of three young children. Both you and your spouse are unemployed and living in a rented house provided by the local Council. You applied to the Health Service Executive (HSE) for a medical card and you received a letter turning down your application. You could not understand why you were turned down because your next door neighbours have a medical card and their circumstances are very similar to yours. You explained all this to the HSE and you have just received another letter stating that you are not entitled to a medical card and that, according to their records, your neighbour does not, in fact, have a medical card.

Using the information provided on this website, compose a letter of complaint to the Ombudsman describing what has happened and indicating why you think you and your family should be entitled to a medical card. Try to imagine what information the Ombudsman would need and include as much detail as possible in your letter.
